5/6 WEEK 6 / PRACTICE 1

WK.6 — P1

Focus: Introducing and mastering two-man game concepts, defending picks, and pressuring clears.

0:00–0:08 | Agility + Stick Work

  • Cone Sprint Split Dodge: 5 cones in straight line, sprint to each, split dodge at cone, switch hands each time.

  • Backpedal Sprint GB: Backpedal 5 yds, explode forward 10 yds to scoop GB.

  • Inside Roll Ladder Drill: Agility ladder, cradle through, inside roll after every 2nd rung.

Coaching Points: Quick feet into explosive change-of-direction; stick always to outside under pressure.

0:08–0:18 | Small-Sided Competitive – 3v3 “Pick to Score”

  • Must set 1 on-ball pick before shooting.

  • Off-ball players read defender’s reaction — slip if defender hedges too hard, pop if defender goes under.

  • Defense must communicate switch or fight through.

0:18–0:28 | Partner Passing – Pick & Pop Feeds

  • Player A sets pick for B, then “pops” to space for catch & shoot from 10–12 yds.

  • Alternate roles; focus on foot placement for clean pop separation.

0:28–0:38 | Position-Specific (Live)

  • Attack: Pick at GLE for inside roll or feed crease; work slips if defender jumps early.

  • Midfield: Midfield picks above the 2-point arc; read switch vs. fight-through.

  • Defense: Hedge to stop dodge without overcommitting; fight over top of pick with stick in lane.

  • Goalie: Read dodge + pick setup; communicate “left/right” early.

0:38–0:48 | Offense Install – “Wing Pick Pop” Play

  • Wing dodger receives pick from X attackman.

  • If defense switches: feed slip to crease.

  • If defense fights over: pop to picker for shot.

  • Run both sides; add backside cutter for secondary option.

0:48–0:58 | Defense Drill – Switch, Fight, Recover

  • 3 lines O, 3 lines D.

  • O sets pick anywhere in designated zone; D works switch OR fight over.

  • Coach calls “switch” or “stay” before rep — forces communication and adaptability.

0:58–1:08 | Ride Pressure Drill – 6-Man Ride vs. Clear

  • Offense clearing team starts in defensive end with ball.

  • Riding team applies full pressure: Attack lock Mids, Mids cut passing lanes, D pinch to midline.

  • Goal: Force turnover in under 10 seconds or trap ball on sideline.

1:08–1:18 | Small-Sided Game – “2-Man Chaos”

  • Play 4v4 in half field; must start each possession with a 2-man game (pick/roll, pick/pop, or slip).

  • Keep score; 1 point per goal, 2 points for assist from pick action.

1:18–1:25 | RST Conditioning – 8 × 30-Yard Sprints

  • 100% effort; walk back recovery; aim for consistent sprint times.

1:25–1:30 | Wrap & Huddle

  • Review: Communication on picks, reading defender’s body position, applying full-field ride pressure.

5/6 WEEK 6 / PRACTICE 2

WK.6 — P2

Focus: Using 2-man game actions in transition and against a zone defense; reinforcing riding/clearing under pressure.

0:00–0:08 | Agility + Stick Work

  • Sprint Crossover Step: 5 cones zig-zag, explode into crossover step while cradling.

  • Backpedal GB Burst Pass: Backpedal 5 yds, scoop GB, immediate pass on run.

  • Roll Dodge Ladder: Agility ladder, roll dodge every 2nd rung; switch hands each rep.

Coaching Points: Feet before hands — quick changes of direction while keeping stick safe.

0:08–0:18 | Small-Sided Competitive – 4v3 Continuous

  • Set up in “Y” fast-break shape (point, two wings, one behind).

  • Play out fast break; defense tries to force extra pass before shot.

  • Rotate players quickly; ball back to coach starts next group.

0:18–0:28 | Partner Passing – Pick & Roll Feeds in Transition

  • Start from top of box, set pick on defender, roll hard to crease.

  • Ball carrier either hits rolling teammate or keeps to shoot.

  • Run at game speed, feeding on the move.

0:28–0:38 | Position-Specific (Live)

  • Attack: Trail 2-man action — follow middie down alley for backside feed.

  • Midfield: Create pick in transition to open passing lane.

  • Defense: Communicate “ball/roll/2” quickly; recover to middle after slide.

  • Goalie: Lead clears with passes to streaking wings.

0:38–0:48 | Offense Install – “2-Man into Fast Break”

  • Start with 2-man action on top or wing, immediately push ball if dodger wins.

  • Middies fill lanes; attackmen seal defenders on backside.

  • Add trailer option for late shot.

0:48–0:58 | Defense Drill – Zone Bump & Fill

  • 3-3 zone set.

  • Offense moves ball around perimeter, using 2-man picks to stress zones.

  • Defenders bump responsibilities quickly, communicate slides from crease.

0:58–1:08 | Ride/Clear Game – 10 Seconds to Half

  • Clearing team has 10 seconds to cross midline.

  • Riding team starts in set positions; forces quick decision-making.

  • Switch O/D after 4 reps.

1:08–1:18 | Small-Sided Game – “Zone Breaker”

  • Play 5v5 in zone D.

  • Offense must use at least one pick action to enter middle before shooting.

  • 1 point per goal, 1 bonus point for goal off pick feed.

1:18–1:25 | RST Conditioning – 8 × 30-Yard Sprints

  • 100% effort; walk back recovery; times should be consistent across reps.

1:25–1:30 | Wrap & Huddle

  • Review: How 2-man game works in both man-to-man and zone; riding pressure and quick clears.
